Education is the key of all the progress and achievement. Educational preparation of nurses, who contribute primarily towards the health of the community, needs constant attention keeping in mind the changing health needs of the society. Profession of nurse requires maintenance of clinical proficiency, critical thinking skill, teaching and promoting uplift of patients in all clinical settings. Besides growing emphasis on public health care delivery system, demographic challenges (such as increase in the number of old population), Urbanization, (Stress and strains), Environmental changes, Life style changes and finally the expansion of employment opportunities, both in India and abroad are some of the factors responsible for increasing gap in demand and supply of trained nurses. In the light of the changing educational system of the country, the course in Auxiliary Nursing has been reorganized into one & half year programme. The programme is geared to the health needs of the country, the community and the individual; and it will serve as a basis for advanced study and specialization in nursing; it will assist nurses in their personal and professional development so that they may make their maximum contribution to the society as individual citizens and nurses.
